Katrafay

(Cedrelposis grevei)

INGREDIENT IN: LeBenediction,LeDelicate, LeFaith, LeSolitude, LeTomorrow

THERAPEUTIC PROPERTIES:
anti-inflammatory, anti-rheumatic, tonic, astringent, lymphatic cleanser

AFFINITY FOR:
lymphatic system, skin, joints, liver meridian, crown chakra, yin energy

RESONANCE:
physical, spiritual, mental

PLANT FAMILY:
Rutaceae

PART UTILIZED:
Bark

EXTRACTION METHOD:
Steam distilled

AROMATIC CONSIDERATIONS:
The aroma of katrafay essential oil is "earthy" with a green, mossy scent. The pale yellow liquid blends well with lavender, tea tree, rosemary, clary sage, nutmeg, lemon and marjoram.

APPLICATION: Katrafay should be diluted well and applied to areas of concern.

PHYSICAL ASPECTS: The remarkable quality about katrafay is its high percentage of sesquiterpenes (about 67.5%). Sesquiterpene molecules readily cross the blood/brain barrier. They bring increased amounts of oxygen and healing properties to the central nervous system. The high percentage of sesquiterpenes also makes katrafay a good fragrance fixative. Katrafay essential oil is indicated for mental fatigue, headaches, sciatica and muscle pains. It is traditionally used in Madagascar after childbirth.

CAUTIONS: Katrafay is generally non-toxic and non-sensitizing. It should be diluted well. Avoid use during pregnancy.

Intestinal Parasites - Worms
by Sharon Moran - Butterfly Expressions, LLC

The human intestinal tract plays host to an enormous variety of bacteria, fungi and various other organisms. Most of these are harmless – some are even beneficial. Other not-so-welcome invaders that can take up residence are called intestinal parasites or parasitic worms. The main type of intestinal parasitic worm in this country are the helminths. These are commonly known as tapeworms, pinworms, hookworms and roundworms. They are transmitted in their egg form through contact with infected feces, contaminated soil, food and water. Worm eggs, shed in the stool of humans and animals infected with adult worms, can contaminate the soil or water. These can infest a host by eating with soil-contaminated hands or by eating raw, unwashed vegetables. Another source of intestinal worms is through undercooked infected meat. Children playing in sandboxes contaminated with pets’ stool and walking around outside barefoot are other ways for intestinal parasites to find a way into the human host. Certain parameters make a person more susceptible to intestinal worms. Some of these are: international travel (especially to countries with poor hygiene), poor personal hygiene habits, age (children and the elderly are more likely to become infested), having a weakened immune system (HIV/AIDS) and swimming in recreational water. Once ingested, the eggs generally grow to maturity in the intestinal tract. These parasites can be as small as a few millimeters or as large as several meters in length. They thrive consuming the bowel content or by sucking the blood from the host’s intestinal wall. The life span of some of these worms has been documented to be up to 20 years. Parasites can live in the intestinal tract for years without causing any symptoms of imbalance in the host. If the parasitic infestation begins to unbalance the host enough a myriad of problems can occur.

Parasitic problems may include:
  Abdominal /Stomach pain
Diarrhea/dysentery
Nausea/vomiting
Gas/bloating
Rash or itching around the rectum or vulva
Feeling tired
Weight loss
Passing a worm in the stool

Nutritional habits which can limit the growth of these parasites include:

Avoiding simple carbohydrates and sugars.
Eating more raw garlic, pumpkin seeds, pomegranates, beets and carrots.
Adding more fiber to the diet to avoid constipation and to keep the intestinal tract moving.
Probiotics are useful to keep the intestinal tract healthy and to create an unfriendly environment for parasites.
Drinking plenty of water to flush the system.
Digestive enzymes such as papain are beneficial in keeping the digestive tract healthy.
Supporting the immune system, specifically with vitamin C and zinc, is beneficial in keeping the body healthy and resistant to infestation.

Generally speaking, herbal remedies for intestinal cleansing are fairly toxic. Herbs and herbal remedies for treating intestinal worms include - garlic, barberry, goldenseal, Oregon grape, aniseed, wormwood, black walnuts, curled mint, and olive leaf. All of these have been used historically to cleanse intestinal parasites. It is the berberine found in these herbs which is helpful to rid the intestinal tract of these unwanted worms. Butterfly Miracles with Herbal Remedies, by LaRee Westover, talks about parasites and how to do a proper cleanse.

The developers of the Miracle II products have a parasite cleanse protocol using both the Miracle II neutralizer and the Miracle II soap. This cleanse is gentle on the system. It creates a “soapy, slippery” environment within the intestinal tract which allows the parasites to be expelled. Resting and repeating the protocol several times allows for the cleansing of both worms and eggs.

Mix 1 ounce of neutralizer with 1 – 3 drops of soap and drink. Repeat this process once a day. Repeat this protocol for 4 consecutive days. After 4 days, stop and wait for 2 days. After the 2 day waiting period, resume the neutralizer/soap protocol for 4 more days. This process takes 10 days.
Day 1 – 4: Neutralizer and soap once a day
Day 5 - 6: Waiting period
Day 7 – 10: Neutralizer and soap once a day

Butterfly Express sells some essential oils which help with many of the symptoms that an infestation of parasitic worms might produce.
LaRee’s Butterfly Miracles with Essential Oils book lists many different oils including: LeInside Out, LeRevitalize, LeSafeGuard, bergamot and turmeric.

Butterfly Express sells some blessed water remedies to help fight intestinal parasites. LaRee’s Butterfly Miracles with Homeopathic Remedies II lists several. Try reading about Intestinal Cleanse, Parasites #1, Parasites #2, and Parasites #3.

One more important note regarding intestinal cleansing: Be very careful that re-infestation does not occur. Constant diligence is necessary to avoid recontamination from the same pathways as the original infestation. For instance, if you got the parasites from your free range chickens and you cleared up the parasites but kept the free range chickens, infestations is likely to reoccur.

LeWeightless

INGREDIENTS: basil, grapefruit, green pepper, lemon, lime, sage

AFFINITY FOR: digestive system, emotional balance, metabolism

RESONANCE: physical, emotional

APPLICATION: LeWeightless is pleasant diffused, where it will eliminate odors and kill bacteria while being enjoyed for its emotional properties. LeWeightless can be used in the bath; be careful to use only 2 or 3 drops. An excellent essential oil blend for a full body massage. Be sure to dilute well.

AROMATIC CONSIDERATIONS: The aroma of LeWeightless is uplifting. It stimulates positive and creative thinking.

EMOTIONALl/PHYSICAL ASPECTS: This delightful blend is designed to function on both the physical and emotional planes, even more than is usual for essential oils. LeWeightless increases metabolism, especially fat burning, and helps to dissolve cellulite. It is a lymph drainer and blood purifier and can be helpful with acne. Emotionally it lightens the weight of our own negativity which is so often the trigger for "binge" eating or junk food consumption. LeWeightless is used in programs for eating disorders such as anorexia.

LeWeightless relieves stress, but it takes a minute. If you can remember to reach for the LeWeightless when you are craving that chocolate bar, then exercise a little self-control for a moment or two, you may find that you move on to something else in your life and the chocolate loses its allure!! This blend also has an effect on the mind, helping it to function more clearly and quickly.

The Autoimmune Imbalance
By Sharon Moran

Auto-immune diseases are on the rise. Millions of Americans are affected. The following is excerpted from: "The Autoimmune Epidemic: Bodies Gone Haywire in a World Out of Balance --and the Cutting Edge Science that Promises Hope" by Donna Jackson Nakazawa

"Imagine, if you can: the tingling foot and ankle that turns out to be the beginning of the slow paralysis of multiple sclerosis. Four hundred thousand patients. Excruciating joint pain and inflammation, skin rashes and never-ending flu-like symptoms that lead to the diagnosis of lupus. One and a half million more. Relentless bouts of vertigo -- the hallmark of Myasthenia gravis. Seven out of every one thousand Americans. Severe abdominal pain, bleeding rectal fissures, uncontrollable diarrhea and chronic intestinal inflammation that define Crohn's disease and inflammatory bowel disease. More than 1 million Americans. The incapacitating weakness and burning pain that accompany the inflammation of the joints and other organs and lead to the crippling effects of rheumatoid arthritis. More than 2 million patients. Dry mouth so persistent eight glasses of water a day won't soothe the parched throat and tongue and the mysterious swallowing difficulties that are the first signs of Sjogren's Syndrome. Four million Americans. And, with almost every autoimmune disease, intolerable, life-altering bouts of exhaustion. If fatigue were a sound made manifest by the 23.5 million people with autoimmune disease in America, the roar across this country would be more deafening than that of the return of the seventeen-year locusts."

The above excerpt shows us how widely spread autoimmune disease is in our culture. The statistics for autoimmune diseases are staggering. Diseases with an autoimmune component were the 8th leading cause of death among women in 2008, shortening the average person's lifespan by fifteen years.

There are many different kinds of autoimmune diseases. Each type of disease attacks a different part of the body and its systems in a different way. All of the nearly 100 autoimmune diseases known to modern medicine can be detected by one major health trait. The symptom common to all autoimmune diseases is the host's body begins to defend itself against itself. An autoimmune disease develops initially in your immune system. The body then begins to view a perfectly healthy body as something that needs to be attacked and eliminated thereby causing damage to otherwise healthy tissue.

Many of these autoimmune diseases have similar symptoms which makes them very hard to diagnose correctly. In fact, it is possible to have more than one autoimmune disease as the same time, further complicating the symptom picture. Autoimmune diseases usually fluctuate between periods of remission when few or no symptoms are present to major flare-ups when symptoms worsen.

Common symptoms to most autoimmune diseases are fatigue, fever and a general sense of not feeling well. As mentioned before, different diseases affect various parts and organs of the body. The most common organs and tissues affected are: joints, muscles, skin, red blood cells, blood vessels, connective tissues and the endocrine glands.

Autoimmune diseases often run through family lines. Statistically, 75% of all those affected with an autoimmune disease are women. The African American, Hispanic and Native American populations are also at a higher risk of developing at least one autoimmune disease.

The actual cause of autoimmune disease is unknown. Most theories contribute certain biological and/or environmental irritants as the culprits. Certain drugs and chemicals have also been implicated.

So what can we do if we find ourselves battling an autoimmune disease? Looking at the whole person, not just an isolated symptom or organ is imperative. The body should always be treated as a complete entity.

How many times have we heard or been told to "eat a healthy, balanced diet"? It may seem a bit naive at first glance, but the body MUST have a good, constant supply of nutrients to build, repair and generally maintain the body. A diet based on fast, pre-packaged and convenience foods does not supply the body with the best nutrition sources. In fact, in may be contributing to the problem if the body is susceptible to the chemicals and preservatives in such food.

Exercise regularly? Again, we take for granted our body's ability to move and give us motion - until it hurts too badly to move at all. A daily regimen of some kind of exercise is imperative to good, well balanced health.

We hear a great deal about stress in our lives. And we are told to "decrease your stress" to improve your heart health especially. Stress is a destroyer. Too many of us live our entire lives with stress created by such emotions are anger, disappointment, fear and worry. We focus too much on what is wrong with our life instead of finding things to be happy and grateful for. Choosing a new, more positive way to interact with the world is by far one of the very best things you can do to eliminate stress and improve your health. (I could write a whole article on just stress!!!)

In terms of what oils and herbs to use to combat the effects of an autoimmune disease, do your research regarding which organs and body systems are effected and work to support them specifically. Work to boost your overall immune system so that your body becomes strong and resistant to invasion. Make sure that your body's eliminative organs are functioning appropriately.

LeInsight

INGREDIENTS: clementine, jasmine, orange sweet, sandalwood, tangerine, vanilla

AFFINITY FOR: emotional balance, cellular memory

RESONANCE: physical, emotional

APPLICATION: This blend can be diffused, diluted to create a massage oil, applied to the navel, chest, or temples.

AROMATIC CONSIDERATIONS: The aroma of LeInsight calms the nerves and grounds the emotions.

EMOTIONAL / SPIRITUAL / MENTAL ASPECTS: LeInsight is powerful in working with personalities that have been fragmented by the terror and confusion felt as the result of abuse. A child should be able to put their trust in the adults in their lives. When this trust is betrayed, there is often deep rifts in the psyche. LeInsight is often used in Inner Child work to reconnect fragmented parts of a personality or soul.

This blend is useful to release negative emotions from the past, whether the memories are conscious or not. The essential oils in this blend combine to clear patterns held in the memory of each cell. When these emotions clear, there is often an increase in intuition, organizational skills, mental faculties, and flexibility of thoughts and reactions.

PHYSICAL ASPECTS: Whenever layers of pain are scarred over in the mind and emotions, physical symptoms will manifest themselves in the body. They are a natural result of anger, fear, and confusion. A blend such as LeInsight can have a healing and renewing effect anywhere in the body.

It is rarely necessary for a person to relive, or even remember, terrible things that were done to them in the past in order for healing to occur. It is only when our actions have harmed another that we need to face them, figure out where our thinking went wrong, and take steps to change. Unfortunately, this is sometimes true of the actions and reactions we took as a result of abuse or mistreatment. In that situation, our own behavior needs remembrance and understanding in order for us to repent, but we do not need to "repent" of the things that were wrongly done to us. Someone else is willingly carrying that burden for us already.

LeQuietEssence

INGREDIENTS: lavender, orange sweet, rosewood, rue, St. John's wort, valerian

AFFINITY FOR: nerves, immune function, genito-urinary system, brain, digestive system, cardiovascular system, all meridians, heart chakra, solar plexus chakra

RESONANCE: analgesic, antispasmodic, nervine, sedative

Therapeutic Properties: analgesic, antispasmodic, nervine, sedative, diurectic, antiparasitic

APPLICATION: LeQuietEssence can be diffused or used in the tub. Dilute and apply to the body along the top ridge of the ears, the wrists, over the heart, or on the soles of the feet.

AROMATIC CONSIDERATIONS: The aroma of LeQuietEssence is calming and relaxing and promotes deep states of restful, dreamless sleep. LeQuietEssence lifts the mood and is a remedy for use in the treatment of depression.

PHYSICAL ASPECTS: The valerian root in this blend contains some volatile components not found in any other essential oil currently produced for aromatherapy. These components are useful for an incredibly long list of things related to nerves and nervous tension. Combining, as is done in this blend, lavender, orange sweet, and the amazing nervine, St. John's wort, creates a blend that is an effective relief for headache, irritability, premenstrual symptoms, any type of cramping or muscle spasms, insomnia, heart palpitations, neuralgia, and panic attacks.

This blend is especially effective when applied to nerve-rich areas of the body such as the back of the neck, fingers, toes, and the coccyx (tailbone).

EMOTIONAL / SPIRITUAL / MENTAL ASPECTS: Recent scientific studies are proving what energy workers have known for a long while - that every cell of the body has the capacity for thought and feeling. The experiences of the past - with accompanying trauma, anger, and guilt - can be held in the cells and tissues of the body for a very long time. Such deeply held pain can dramatically alter our perspective. Truth becomes relative to our perception and the frequent triggering of our emotional pain. We either indulge in denial, suppressing memories that don't bear out our perception, or we rewrite truth altogether in order to survive, or seek relief by vengeance or retribution.

LeQuietEssence is an essential oil blend that encourages understanding, forgiveness, and reconciliation. This blend can help us move away from guilt and accusation and into peace and understanding. We can let go of past pain and trauma, embrace and claim for ourselves the lessons learned, and live - ”daily - in the warm glow of compassion for our own mistakes and the mistakes of others.

This blend is also useful for scattered or confused feelings about spirituality and inspiration. There is a strong connection between faith and immune function. Peace in this area can be a great blessing to the physical body. LeQuietEssence can help us set appropriate personal boundaries and find greater clarity in spiritual matters.

Cautions: This blend contains rue, valerian, and St. John's wort, but all in quite low percentages. These essential oils, particularly rue, have long lists of cautions, especially for pregnant women. As always, it is best to begin slowly and proceed with caution, always diluting well. I, personally, find little to fear in this amazing blend.

LeSolitude

INGREDIENTS: cabreuva, chamomile German, lavender, marjoram, rosewood, orange sweet

AFFINITY FOR: skin, cardiovascular system, emotional health, heart chakra, kidney meridian

RESONANCE: physical, emotional

APPLICATION: Dilute and apply to the chest and anywhere you have unsightly or uncomfortable veins. LeSolitude is excellent in the bath or diluted for a massage oil.

AROMATIC CONSIDERATIONS: LeSolitude is calming and can help one to "de-stress" following a stress filled day. Diffusing LeSolitude at night helps me relax into a peaceful sleep.

EMOTIONAL / SPIRITUAL / MENTAL ASPECTS: The aroma of LeSolitude can be useful in creating an atmosphere of peace and quiet in which to regenerate and rebuild emotional reserves. This oil brings peace and happiness to mind and body. It has been useful to some in overcoming depression and coping with anxiety. The name of this blend, LeSolitude, is an appropriate description of the mood this blend creates - that of spending some time in solitary contemplation and regenerating of one"s self.

PHYSICAL ASPECTS: LeSolitud's affinity is for anything to do with heart or vein health. It is truly a cardiovascular oil and vein health essential oil. This blend should be used for varicose veins, spider veins, and to promote capillary health. LeSolitude can be used as a muscle relaxant and to relieve tension headaches. The chamomile and rosewood, in a synergistic arrangement with the stronger antiseptic oils in this blend, combine to make an oil that moisturizes dry skin and is a good treatment for eczema.

Whenever essential oils are massaged onto veins or capillaries, especially weak one, the motion should always be toward the heart.

Fir Siberica

(Abies siberica)

INGREDIENT IN: LeHoliday Spirit

THERAPEUTIC PROPERTIES: antiseptic, antibacterial, deodorant, antitussive, expectorant, astringent, laxative, antispasmodic, analgesic, diuretic, immune stimulant, nervine

AFFINITY FOR: central nervous system, all of the chakras

RESONANCE: physical, emotional

PLANT FAMILY: Coniferae

PART UTILIZED: needles (leaves)

EXTRACTION METHOD: steam distilled

AROMATIC CONSIDERATIONS: Fir, siberica is sightly more pungent than the balsamea variety that is described above, but still wonderfully resinous and woodsy. The aroma of fir, siberica is pleasing to both men and women. Men like the conifer oils because they lack any hint of feminine flower aromas. All conifer oils, while very nice applied to the body, are absolutely wonderful when diffused.

APPLICATION: Fir, siberica should be diluted and applied to areas of concern or to the feet.

EMOTIONAL / SPIRITUAL / MENTAL ASPECTS: Conifer trees stand straight and tall with their heads in the clouds of heaven and their feet firmly planted in the earth. They have a tremendous resilience, maintaining their foliage in both summer and winter. In an evergreen tree, the foliage is centered around a central strong and solid center. Conifer trees provide protection for the other residents of the forest. These features tell us much about the use of the essential oils that are distilled from them. They are protecting and grounding and they help us structure our lives around a firm and solid center.

PHYSICAL ASPECTS: Fir, siberica has a very pleasing aroma. Nevertheless, it is an intense antiseptic and antibacterial. It is a pleasant alternative to tea tree oil in many instances and certainly has a more pleasant aroma.

GENERAL INFORMATION: Fir, siberica can be used almost interchangeably with fir, balsamea.

CAUTIONS: Fir, siberica oil could be a possible skin irritant if used for long periods of time, or when used undiluted.

Niaouli

(Melaleuca viridiflora)

INGREDIENT IN: LeMelaPlus

THERAPEUTIC PROPERTIES: very strong and powerful antifungal, antibacterial, antiviral, digestive tonic, cytophylactic (tissue regenerating), analgesic, insecticide, decongestant

AFFINITY FOR: immune system, skin/muscles, respiratory/pulmonary system, central and governing meridians

RESONANCE: physical, emotional, spiritual

PLANT FAMILY: Myrtaceae

PART UTILIZED: leaves, twigs

EXTRACTION METHOD: steam distilled

AROMATIC CONSIDERATIONS: Niaouli is a member of the melaleuca (tea tree) species, but has a sweeter, more delicate scent than the alternafolia variety that we are most familiar with. The aroma of this oil can clear the mind and help us stay alert. Niaouli is a great aid to concentration.

APPLICATION: Niaouli can be diluted and applied to any area of the body. It makes a very good disinfectant.

EMOTIONAL / SPIRITUAL / MENTAL ASPECTS: Niaouli is said to open the inner vision of the soul and direct our thoughts toward heaven. Niaouli can help us focus on higher values and more worthy goals. Niaouli can help us see the bigger picture of our lives and find those things that we were born to do.

PHYSICAL ASPECTS: Niaouli has been shown in studies to be a general immune system booster and effective as a response to allergic reactions. This oil is an excellent antiseptic for treating pulmonary infections, bronchitis, coughs, sinus congestion, and sore throats. The anti-inflammatory properties of this oil make it useful for muscle aches. Naiouli, being a member of the tea tree family, is very antiseptic. It is useful for skin conditions such as cuts, boils, burns, insect bites, and acne.

GENERAL INFORMATION: Niaouli is often found in pharmaceutical preparations such as gargles, cough drops, toothpastes, and mouth sprays.

CAUTIONS: Niaouli is photo-toxic. Avoid direct sunlight on skin to which niaouli oil has been applied in the last 24 hours.

Spanish Sage

(Salvia lavandulaefolia)

INGREDIENT IN: LeDelicate, LeReflections

THERAPEUTIC PROPERTIES: anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, astringent, analgesic, nervous system (memory), lymphatic system, anti-microbial

AFFINITY FOR: digestive system, circulatory system, respiratory system, nervous system, endocrine system, muscles, bones, skin, third eye chakra, pelvic chakra and organs

RESONANCE: physical, emotional, spiritual, mental

PLANT FAMILY: Labiatae (mint)

PART UTILIZED: whole plant

EXTRACTION METHOD: steam distilled

APPLICATION: Spanish sage may be applied anywhere on the body, but is particularly beneficial when applied to the feet. May also be diffused.

AROMATIC CONSIDERATIONS: Spanish Sage has some beautiful lavender undertones. These notes are every bit as evident as the properties that are reminiscent of sage, giving this oil a unique character and aroma.

EMOTIONAL / SPIRITUAL / MENTAL ASPECTS: The combining of the emotional aspects of sage and lavender produces a very unique picture for this essential oil. Sage is characterized by clarity of intuition and vision, while lavender promotes faith and feelings of being loved. The combination is quite astonishing in the ability to create strength in the face of loss. This oil fosters confidence in one"s ability to not just survive, but to grow and flourish following a tragedy. Spanish sage can ease the way along a new path that one did not and would not have chosen if there had been a choice. Spanish sage is recommended for grief and for fear of loving (and, possibly, losing) again.

PHYSICAL ASPECTS: Probably the most outstanding characteristic of Spanish Sage is its affect on the brain and nervous system. This oil has been shown in studies to improve memory and mental acuity. Spanish sage is being utilized in treatments for Alzheimer's and other age-related memory disorders. Other studies are following - with growing excitement - the result of the use of Spanish Sage by college students as an aid in memorizing and retaining facts and information.

Spanish Sage is useful as an aid to digestive dysfunction, especially if the problem has emotional or nervous drivers. Spanish sage acts as a stimulant to the liver, the adrenals, and the circulation. This essential oil is often effective against headaches of nervous or digestive origins. Spanish sage appears to lower blood sugar without negatively affecting insulin levels. The anti-microbial and skin regenerating properties of this essential oil make it useful for skin conditions such as eczema and dandruff. Spanish sage is also used for coughs, colds, and flu.

GENERAL INFORMATION: This essential oil is being used by some aromatherapists as a replacement for sage (Salvia officinalis) as the higher concentration of ketones in sage produce some contra indications. However, it should be noted that the ketones in sage, in such quantity, are responsible for some of the healing properties of sage oil, as well.

CAUTIONS: Spanish sage essential oil is generally considered safe for topical use but is strong enough that a carrier oil is advised.
