Miracle Salve
With Shea or Without Shea
Miracle Salve has always been wonderful but when we got a new product this summer we decided to make our Miracle Salve even better. This new product was Shea Butter.

Shea Butter has many wonderful properties and is an excellent emollient. It is a great addition to Miracle Salve. However, we were not aware that when Shea Butter has been heated it will separate as it cools. In Miracle salve, the separation of the Shea doesn’t show up until the salve is 1 or 2 weeks old. When the Shea butter separates it forms beads which makes the salve appear lumpy. This lumpiness does not effect the therapeutic value of the salve and the salve is still easy to use. The Shea beads melt in your hands as you rub the salve in. The salve with Shea butter added will not remain the smooth Miracle salve you are used to if you allow it to get too hot.

It has always been recommended to keep your Miracle Salve in the fridge. This is especially important if there is Shea butter in the salve. The salve will stay smooth so long as it is kept cool, at room temperature or below. If the salve gets warm enough that the Shea re-melts, 85 degrees or more, then it will bead up as described above. Shipping salves which contain Shea butter becomes a problem during the summer months. Too often the salves become hot enough to melt the Shea butter which then beads up after the salve has cooled back down.

The only way we know of to add Shea Butter and permanently keep it from beading is a heating process which kills a lot of the amino acids and proteins in the Shea. Although this fixes the beading problem it also drastically decreases it’s therapeutic value. We have chosen not to use this method which means our Shea butter salves will bead up if they get too hot.

Any Salve you have with Shea beads can be fixed by putting the salve in a metal pot or bowl and putting it in a sink full of hot tap water. Being careful not to get any water in your salve simply stir it until all of the Shea beads melt back into the salve. Once the Shea is melted move your container with your salve from the hot water to ice water and stir until the salve is cooled below room temperature. This will keep the Shea from beading as it sits.

For some people having Shea butter and its wonderful properties in the salve is worth the hassle, for others it is not. Butterfly Express, LLC will be selling both the Miracle Salve with Shea Butter and our Original Miracle Salve without Shea in jars so you can decide which is best for you. Miracle Salve pump bottles will only be available with Original Miracle Salve. BHM salve, BHM Plus salve, and CM salve are currently available in Original form and with Shea butter while supplies last. After that they will only be available in the Original recipe without Shea.

HEALTH TIP: Making your own Tinctures

IF

(Formerly Infection Fighter)

3.00 echinacea
2.00 Oregon grape root
1.00 poke root
1.00 red clover blossoms
0.50 cayenne
0.50 yarrowss
1.00 usnea

This is a very effective all purpose infection fighting formula. It can be taken internally or used as a tea for external compresses, washes, or soaks. It may be used for any type of infection—infected injuries, sore throats, ear infections, and anything else that you can think of. Add with usnea and yarrow or with the SS formula if strep or staph is suspected. FN should be added if there is any chance the problem is fungal.

Goldenseal sometimes adversely affects estrogen and glucose levels. I use Oregon grape root in nearly all formulas, but goldenseal may be used if you prefer. Myrrh can also be substituted. I generally prefer to use herbs that grow in the country, even part of the country, in which I live. I have found them, for the most part, to be more effective than even the Chinese herbs that have such a reputation. See “Oregon Grape Root” in the index for page reference for further information on this amazing healer that grows in our own mountains.

Herbal Antibiotics VS Drug-Resistant Superbugs

By Sharon Moran

Bacteria which have grown resistant to antibiotics are now being called superbugs. They are becoming more numerous and more virulent thanks to the overuse of antibiotics. Herbs and herbal preparations however, can offer increasingly valuable alternatives for protection from these superbugs.

In the early part of the 1940's there was only approximately 64 pounds of available penicillin for the entire world! Sixty seven years later the United States alone was using approximately 60 million pounds of this antibiotic; about half of this was used on livestock to promote growth and to prevent illnesses.

One of the major problems with antibiotics is that they don't go away. They are excreted (by humans and animals alike) and wind up in the sewer treatment plants. They are still in the water supply, relatively unchanged, as they leave these treatment facilities. Some studies suggest that all of the water supplies in the industrialized countries are contaminated with minute amounts of antibiotics.

This saturation and over-use of antibiotics has created the perfect conditions for the rise of bacteria that are now resistant to the drugs which once destroyed them. The first cases of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) appeared in 1999. At first these resistant superbugs were thought to be limited to hospitals. Unfortunately, they are now quite common place throughout most of the world's populations. The use (and overuse) of antibacterial soaps, mouthwashes and hand sanitizers has also contributed to the proliferation of superbugs.

Ready for the good news!!!!!

Our bodies are actually host to many bacteria which are friendly and mutualistic. A well functioning body has all of its available "spaces" filled with beneficial bacteria. These friendly bacteria actually generate substances that kill off unfriendly bacteria and keep the body's immune system active, vital and well functioning. For example, there is a species of streptococcus that normally lives in our throat. When needed, it produces an antibacterial substance against the streptococcus bacteria that causes strep throat.

Throughout our lifetime, regular exposure to "bad" bacteria teaches our bodies how to respond appropriately. In other words, they teach our bodies how to heal themselves. This actually equates to higher degree of health benefits as we age. Research is now showing that children who have used excessive amounts of antibiotics as well as hand sanitizers and topical sterilizers are in fact much sicker overall as adults. The people who have actually been exposed to germs and have allowed their bodies to mobilize their natural defenses are far more likely to stay well and to develop natural immunities.

Natural remedies provide excellent antibacterial (as well as antiviral and antifungal) alternatives which aid the body in staying well without suppressing the immune system. Herbal tinctures and essential oils have been providing primary medicine for hundreds of years without creating a resistance. The basic biochemistry of plant based medicines is highly complex. Plant medicines contain hundreds, if not thousands, of individual compounds interacting and working together. Pharmaceutical antibiotics, on the other hand, are one basic element coming up against an organism; thus the ability for the organism to adapt and change and become resistant is greater.

Allowing nature to take its course, not suppressing the immune system and using natural, plant-based alternatives are all wonderful ways to create and self-healing and well balanced, healthy body.
"It is Christmas every time you let God love others through you.  Yes, it is Christmas every time you smile at your brother and offer him your hand."
~Mother Teresa~

LeBeloved

INGREDIENTS: bergamot, geranium, lemon, mandarin, orange sweet, sandalwood, ylang ylang

AFFINITY FOR: spiritual side of our natures, emotions, heart chakra

RESONANCE: spiritual, emotional, physical

APPLICATION: LeBeloved should be applied over the heart chakra using the palms of the hands. It can also be diffused.

AROMATIC CONSIDERATIONS: The aroma of LeBeloved is like a breath of fresh air for our hearts and souls. When we feel out of sync with our loved ones or overwhelmed by our responsibilities to them, this oil helps bring us back to joy in what is most important in our lives.

EMOTIONAL / SPIRITUAL / MENTAL ASPECTS: LeBeloved profoundly affects the heart chakra and is a beautiful oil for relationships—both romantic and with family and friends. It opens our hearts and our spirits to recognize that we are loved more than we can possibly comprehend. Understanding the great love that God has for us can help us to heal our own emotional wounds. From our wholeness of heart, we can then see clearly and respond generously in just the right way.

LeBeloved is helpful in developing inner strength and fortitude. The oils is this blend are of benefit when we are feeling overwhelmed or must accept changes in the circumstances of our lives. LeBeloved has been of value with mood swings and panic attacks.

PHYSICAL ASPECTS: The negative emotions found in dysfunctional and destructive relationships can manifest in a variety of ways, making this blend effective for a broad spectrum of physical complaints. This list may include bed-wetting, a tendency for cystits and urinary tract infections, headaches, heart palpitations, menstrual cramps and just about anything else. The important thing to pay attention to is the emotional drivers of physical pain.

LeCinnamonBear

INGREDIENTS: cassia, clove, eucalyptus, mandarin, orange sweet, rosemary, spruce

AFFINITY FOR: sacral chakra, spleen meridian, circulatory system, immune system, lymphatic system

RESONANCE: physical, spiritual, emotional

APPLICATION: Cassia is a form of cinnamon and is a major component of this blend, thus LeCinnamonBear should be diluted well when applied to the body. This blend would be an excellent choice for use—one or two drops only—on your toothbrush and would make an excellent mouthwash (and would taste better than LeDeliverance).

AROMATIC CONSIDERATIONS: LeCinnamonBear has a delightful aroma, spicy and sweet at the same time. The spruce in the blend grounds our energy to earth, the citruses lift the mood and the spirits, the cassia and clove sharpen the senses and clear the mind, while the rosemary provides support to a wide range of physical and energetic systems (see description of rosemary in the previous chapter.)

EMOTIONAL / SPIRITUAL / MENTAL ASPECTS: LeCinnamonBear lifts the spirits and helps us experience life as a joyous journey, a dance through the wonders of learning and growing. This blend removes the resistance we sometimes feel to new experiences, new people, and new situations. If we lack joy in our lives it becomes easy to blame others and let anger and frustration rule our days and damage our relationships. The change in perspective this blend provides can bring welcome warmth into this dark place, returning the soul to a place of optimism, contentment, and happiness.

PHYSICAL ASPECTS: Physically, LeCinnamonBear acts as a stimulant and tonic for circulation, and for the immune and lymphatic systems. Diluted well, this blend is an excellent choice for massage. The effects will be gently stimulating. LeCinnamonBear is especially beneficial to sore muscles and joints stiffened by arthritis or rheumatism.

Cassia, and this LeCinnamonBear blend containing it, stimulate T-lymphocyte activity and immuno-globulin production by the B-cells of the immune system. These are key elements of effective resistance to disease by our bodies.

This blend, with its stimulating, mood lifting, and immune building properties is an excellent oil for the convalescent stage of illness. The emotional aspects of LeCinnamonBear do not allow for discouragement and can help us thrive, not just survive, an illness or difficult place in our lives.

Cautions: Care (not avoided entirely, however) should be used with LeCinnamonBear by pregnant women since both cassia and clove are quite stimulating. If your skin is especially sensitive, you should exercise caution or avoid using this blend in the bath.

LeHoliday Spirit

INGREDIENTS: benzoin, cinnamon bark, fir siberica, orange sweet, orange sweet dark, spruce

AFFINITY FOR: respiratory system, emotions

RESONANCE: emotional, spiritual, physical

APPLICATION: LeHoliday Spirit is especially appropriate applied to the crown of the head. It can also be placed on pine boughs and cones, cedar chips, logs to burn in the fireplace, and used to scent potpourri.

AROMATIC CONSIDERATIONS: When diffused, LeHoliday Spirit creates a delightful holiday atmosphere. It reminds us of fond family events and emotions. LeHoliday Spirit is a great blend when diffused for purifying the air at any time of the year.

EMOTIONAL / SPIRITUAL / MENTAL ASPECTS: The aroma of LeHoliday Spirit is reminiscent of Christmas. For most people this blend brings feelings of happiness and security. LeHoliday Spirit brings a desire to hold on to and build relationships with family and friends. The holiday season seems less stressful and more enjoyable when this blend is kept diffused in the house. LeHoliday Spirit can help us deal with the stress of Christmases past if our memories are of things that were not just as we wished them to be. This blend really increases the Christmas Spirit in your home—or in your favorite Christmas Scrooge!

PHYSICAL ASPECTS: Besides all of its wonderful emotional aspects, LeHoliday Spirit has shown itself to be beneficial at purifying the air, killing airborne “bugs”, and soothing respiratory ailments. It has also been used successfully in the treatment of anorexia.

Cautions: LeHoliday Spirit contains cinnamon and can irritate the skin if used topically undiluted.

Frankincense

(Boswellia carterii)

INGREDIENT IN: LeAboutFace, LeAcknowledge, LeAgeLess, LeAssurance, LeBelieve, LeBountiful, LeEternity, LeEverlasting, LeExpressions, LeEZ Traveler, LeFaith, LeGrateful Heart, LeInner Peace, LeIQ, LeJourney, LeKindred Spirit, LeLifeForce, LeMagi, LeMeditation, LeMillenia, LePatches, LeTomorrow, LeRefreshMint, LeTrust, LeTurmoil, LeUnity, LeVictory

THERAPEUTIC PROPERTIES: tonic, stimulant, expectorant, antidepressant, antiseptic, revitalizer, anti-catarrhal, anti-tumoral

AFFINITY FOR: respiratory system, digestive system, circulation, urinary tract, skin, cellular structure and strength, earth meridian, crown chakra

RESONANCE: mental, emotional, spiritual, physical

PLANT FAMILY:Burseraceae

PART UTILIZED: resin

EXTRACTION METHOD: distilled

AROMATIC CONSIDERATIONS: Frankincense can be used to reduce anxiety and nervous tension, and in times of stress or fear.

APPLICATION: Frankincense can be applied to any area of the body. It is of great benefit diffused.

EMOTIONAL / SPIRITUAL / MENTAL ASPECTS: Frankincense is an excellent choice for those who are afraid of death, fear coming changes in their lives, or have suffered the loss of a loved one. Helps us link the past with the future, allowing us to connect cause and effect, actions and consequences, to one another. As we make these connections, we can choose our course more wisely in the future.

PHYSICAL ASPECTS: Frankincense has a reputation worldwide for crossing the blood/brain barrier, carrying oxygen and nutrients to the pineal and pituitary glands within the brain. It is the sesquiterpenes contained in frankincense that give it this ability. (There are many essential oils besides frankincense which contain sesquiterpenes. Some of them even contain more sesquiterpenes than frankincense.)

Frankincense is useful for skin disorders and circulation problems. It has a very beneficial effect on respiratory conditions such as cough, bronchitis, and pneumonia. Frankincense is of benefit in any condition that is caused or worsened by nervous tension and emotional trauma.

GENERAL INFORMATION: Frankincense is considered a holy oil in the Middle East. It has been used since ancient times in meditations. It is said that frankincense improves communication between us and our Creator.

In ancient Israel, frankincense was used to anoint the newborn sons of kings and priests. Perhaps, the magi brought frankincense to the infant Jesus as a symbolic representation of who he really was.

Frankincense was also used during the time of approaching death. It was thought to assist a person in making the transition from life to death. Certainly, Christ’s eventual death for all of us was the purpose of his life. I find the reverse symbolism of life from death—resurrection—to be equally powerful.

Frankincense was also used in the embalming of the dead. Perhaps its inclusion in the rare and precious gifts was an acknowledgement of the life and mission of the Savior of the World.

Myrrh

(Commiphora myrrha)

INGREDIENT IN: LeBenediction, LeBo
