Intestinal Parasites - Worms
by Sharon Moran - Butterfly Expressions, LLC

The human intestinal tract plays host to an enormous variety of bacteria, fungi and various other organisms. Most of these are harmless – some are even beneficial. Other not-so-welcome invaders that can take up residence are called intestinal parasites or parasitic worms. The main type of intestinal parasitic worm in this country are the helminths. These are commonly known as tapeworms, pinworms, hookworms and roundworms. They are transmitted in their egg form through contact with infected feces, contaminated soil, food and water. Worm eggs, shed in the stool of humans and animals infected with adult worms, can contaminate the soil or water. These can infest a host by eating with soil-contaminated hands or by eating raw, unwashed vegetables. Another source of intestinal worms is through undercooked infected meat. Children playing in sandboxes contaminated with pets’ stool and walking around outside barefoot are other ways for intestinal parasites to find a way into the human host. Certain parameters make a person more susceptible to intestinal worms. Some of these are: international travel (especially to countries with poor hygiene), poor personal hygiene habits, age (children and the elderly are more likely to become infested), having a weakened immune system (HIV/AIDS) and swimming in recreational water. Once ingested, the eggs generally grow to maturity in the intestinal tract. These parasites can be as small as a few millimeters or as large as several meters in length. They thrive consuming the bowel content or by sucking the blood from the host’s intestinal wall. The life span of some of these worms has been documented to be up to 20 years. Parasites can live in the intestinal tract for years without causing any symptoms of imbalance in the host. If the parasitic infestation begins to unbalance the host enough a myriad of problems can occur.

Parasitic problems may include:
  Abdominal /Stomach pain
Rash or itching around the rectum or vulva
Feeling tired
Weight loss
Passing a worm in the stool

Nutritional habits which can limit the growth of these parasites include:

Avoiding simple carbohydrates and sugars.
Eating more raw garlic, pumpkin seeds, pomegranates, beets and carrots.
Adding more fiber to the diet to avoid constipation and to keep the intestinal tract moving.
Probiotics are useful to keep the intestinal tract healthy and to create an unfriendly environment for parasites.
Drinking plenty of water to flush the system.
Digestive enzymes such as papain are beneficial in keeping the digestive tract healthy.
Supporting the immune system, specifically with vitamin C and zinc, is beneficial in keeping the body healthy and resistant to infestation.

Generally speaking, herbal remedies for intestinal cleansing are fairly toxic. Herbs and herbal remedies for treating intestinal worms include - garlic, barberry, goldenseal, Oregon grape, aniseed, wormwood, black walnuts, curled mint, and olive leaf. All of these have been used historically to cleanse intestinal parasites. It is the berberine found in these herbs which is helpful to rid the intestinal tract of these unwanted worms. Butterfly Miracles with Herbal Remedies, by LaRee Westover, talks about parasites and how to do a proper cleanse.

The developers of the Miracle II products have a parasite cleanse protocol using both the Miracle II neutralizer and the Miracle II soap. This cleanse is gentle on the system. It creates a “soapy, slippery” environment within the intestinal tract which allows the parasites to be expelled. Resting and repeating the protocol several times allows for the cleansing of both worms and eggs.

Mix 1 ounce of neutralizer with 1 – 3 drops of soap and drink. Repeat this process once a day. Repeat this protocol for 4 consecutive days. After 4 days, stop and wait for 2 days. After the 2 day waiting period, resume the neutralizer/soap protocol for 4 more days. This process takes 10 days.
Day 1 – 4: Neutralizer and soap once a day
Day 5 - 6: Waiting period
Day 7 – 10: Neutralizer and soap once a day

Butterfly Express sells some essential oils which help with many of the symptoms that an infestation of parasitic worms might produce.
LaRee’s Butterfly Miracles with Essential Oils book lists many different oils including: LeInside Out, LeRevitalize, LeSafeGuard, bergamot and turmeric.

Butterfly Express sells some blessed water remedies to help fight intestinal parasites. LaRee’s Butterfly Miracles with Homeopathic Remedies II lists several. Try reading about Intestinal Cleanse, Parasites #1, Parasites #2, and Parasites #3.

One more important note regarding intestinal cleansing: Be very careful that re-infestation does not occur. Constant diligence is necessary to avoid recontamination from the same pathways as the original infestation. For instance, if you got the parasitesfrom your free range chickens and you cleared up the parasitesbut kept the free range chickens, infestations is likely to reoccur.

These homemade natural lotions are gentle enough for all skin types.     They are paraben free, formaldehyde free, and they contain no petroleum products, no animal products, and no artificial fragrances or dyes.

distilled water, LN Carrier oil (almond oil infused with herbs: comfrey, arnica, St. John’s wort, lobelia, calendula, angelica, valerian, ginger, cayenne), veggie emulsifier, stearic acid, menthol crystals, Paine essential oil blend (birch, clove, copaiba balsam, eucalyptus, helichrysum, peppermint essential oils), refined vitamin e oil, sodium lactate, optiphen, Benzoin essential oil

About the ingredients:
LN Carrier oil contains the herbs comfrey, arnica, St. John’s wort, lobelia, calendula, angelica root, valerian root, ginger root, and cayenne. These herbs, infused in almond oil, create a carrier oil which is amazing for injuries, bruising, inflammation, and the general pain and soreness that accompany injuries. The addition of lobelia in this infusion helps to deliver the other healing herbs to the area of concern quickly and relieves pain. The arnica works on sore, tight muscles and helps to reduce swelling of injured areas. Arnicas is not usually recommended for use on open wounds but in the small percentage that exists here we have never had any problem over the course of many years. Comfrey is probably best known for its healing ability for bones and tissues, but it is also very helpful for chest congestion. Cayenne works on the blood and is very effective at improving overall circulation. With increased circulation comes better oxygenation and healing. LN oil is especially effective when coupling it with essential oils such as LePaine, LeDeeper, LePatches, LeTendaCare and LeWarmDown.

Menthol Crystals: Menthol crystals are used for their analgesic and cooling effects. They contain local anesthetic, antipruritic, analgesic, antispasmodic and anti-irritant qualities. They are used for pain relief and for things like sprains, sore or pulled muscles, muscle spasms and cramping, and minor aches and pains of any sort.

Sprouts - The Ultimate Food Source
By Sharon Moran

Growing sprouts at home on your own kitchen counter is an excellent way to both improve your nutritional intake as well as boost your immune system. When you sprout seeds at home, it's like gardening inside!

During the winter our intake of fresh, locally grown produce is limited. Utilizing sprouts you grow yourself fills the need for raw food and that urge to watch something grow!

Sprouting is a fairly inexpensive way to put fresh, healthy food on your family's plate. Unlike gardening, the turnaround time on sprouts, from seed to edible sprout, is about a week. And sprouting is simple to do.

The actual sprout of a seed is generally more nutrient dense than the fully mature plant. All varieties of sprouts are small in comparison to their parent plant, but they pack so much nutrition in such a small package they are an excellent food.

One of the very best sprouts around is watercress. Watercress sprouts contain potassium, fiber, protein, calcium, iron, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, folate, zinc, vitamin A, B6, B12, C, D, E and vitamin K.

Nutritional Statistics About Sprouts:

Alfalfa - a great source of vitamins A, B, C, D, E F, and K

Wheatgrass - high in B vitamins, vitamin C, and tons of minerals

Mung beans - excellent source of protein and fiber

Lentils - another excellent source of protein that can be eaten raw

In case you are not convinced yet, here is a few more reasons why sprouts are so good:

Sprouts, in their initial growth phase, contain concentrated amounts of nutrients. Because of this, you need to eat far less sprouts than you would otherwise to get the same amount of nutrition. They are power packed!

During the sprouting process the vitamin content of sprouts skyrockets. An average increase of around 20% in normal although some sprouts are even higher. For example, the vitamin B1 content of sprouted mung beans increases by an outstanding 285 percent!

The enzyme content of sprouts generally exceeds that of fresh fruits and vegetables. These enzymes in turn allow the body to extract more nutrition from the other food you consume with the sprouts.

Growing your own sprouts is easy. They don't take up much space and require very little time. There are hundreds of sprouting methods and tools available on the market. Or you can use a mason jar and some cheesecloth over the top to strain the water. No matter how you choose to sprout your sprouts, find a corner of your kitchen counter and start today. Your body will love you for it.

INGREDIENTS: cypress, lavender, manuka, mountain savory, tagette, tea tree, rosemary, ylang ylang

AFFINITY FOR: immune system, reproductive system, digestive system, skin

RESONANCE: physical

APPLICATION: LeCandila should be diluted well and applied to affected areas. If you use this blend as a douche for vaginal candida, be sure to dilute very well!

PHYSICAL ASPECTS: LeCandila was created for use against thrush, candida, and vaginal yeast type infections. LeCandila is not a "magic bullet” there is no such thing, really. To eradicate a candida overgrowth you must make dietary changes. The use of a good quality acidophilus or pro-biotic is also recommended. A Vitamin E supplement in your diet may also be of benefit.

GENERAL INFORMATION: Most of us will have some sort of systemic yeast overgrowth at one time or another during our lives. This will probably be due to a diet which is too acidic or taking antibiotics. Even a brief period of an acidic diet, such as during the holiday season, can produce an acidic enough environment to cause an outbreak of candida. A round of antibiotics, if we find it necessary to subject ourselves to such a regimen, can also create the optimal environment for a candida overgrowth. LeCandila, and a product carried by Butterfly Express, llc, called Candidase, can be very beneficial in keeping yeast from multiplying out of control.

INGREDIENTS: cedarwood, orange sweet, ylang ylang

AFFINITY FOR: throat chakra, immune system (use faithfully during the cough and cold season)

RESONANCE: physical, emotional

APPLICATION: This blend can be diffused, placed on the pillow at night, or applied, diluted, to sinus areas any time.

AROMATIC CONSIDERATIONS: LeGoodNite can be diffused in the home during the evening to promote restful sleep.

EMOTIONAL / SPIRITUAL / MENTAL ASPECTS: Part of the reason that LeGoodNite promotes restful sleep is because it encourages feelings of peace. We feel assurance that all will be well in our world even though we are sleeping and not actively watching over it. LeGoodNite seems to help us process, painlessly, deep emotions during our sleep. In the morning we will be able to express our deep feelings about these emotions clearly and without the usual stress.

PHYSICAL ASPECTS: LeGoodNite is effective for insomnia and snoring, and soothes inflamed or swollen nasal and sinus passages while promoting deep and restful sleep.

INGREDIENTS: bergamot, blue tansy, cabreuva, chamomile Roman, carrot seed, davana, fennel, geranium, helichrysum, lemon, rosemary

AROMATIC CONSIDERATIONS: LeRevitalize, diffused, can give everyone in the room a boost of energy and alertness.

APPLICATION: Dilute well when applying LeRevitalize to the body. This essential oil blend is best applied over the liver or on the bottoms of the feet.

EMOTIONAL / SPIRITUAL / MENTAL ASPECTS: LeRevitalize increases mental alertness and alleviates mental fatigue. It is a great blend for replenishing inner stores of strength and increasing stamina. LeRevitalize is especially effective for those who are worn out from chronic illness or who make a habit out of running faster than they have strength most of the time. This blend has proven useful in programs for anger management and in overcoming addictions.

PHYSICAL ASPECTS: LeRevitalize cleanses the liver, but does so gently and steadily. It stabilizes energy levels and improves vitality. LeRevitalize is a good digestive aid, particularly in eliminating bloating, belching, and heartburn. LeRevitalize should be applied over the abdomen, either massaged on or applied in a compress, for parasites. A compress or direct application over the gallbladder or kidneys can relieve distress and pain in these areas. This is an excellent oil for lymphatic congestion and immune stimulation.

(Betula lenta)

INGREDIENT IN: LeBreezey, LeDeeper, LeEZ Traveler, LeMagi, LePaine

THERAPEUTIC PROPERTIES: anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antiseptic, antispasmodic, disinfectant

AFFINITY FOR: muscles and joints , nerves, urinary system, lymphatic system, lung meridian

RESONANCE: physical, emotional

PLANT FAMILY: Betulaceae

EXTRACTION METHOD: steam distilled

APPLICATION: Birch should be applied, well diluted, to areas of pain or inflammation.

AROMATIC CONSIDERATIONS: Birch awakens the senses, increasing awareness and alertness.

EMOTIONAL / SPIRITUAL / MENTAL ASPECTS: Sometimes we get into a frame of mind where we are very much afraid of the truth. We are sure that we will not be able to handle the truth if it is forced upon us. We spend a lot of mental and emotional energy hiding from the truth. Birch is eye opening. It shatters our illusions and brings us up against reality. This sounds harsh, but honesty in looking at oneself is a liberating force. The most important truth we can learn in this life is the truth about our own motivations. This truth will truly set us free and birch essential oil can help us grasp it and keep hold of it.

PHYSICAL ASPECTS: Birch essential oil has analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties. It is useful for arthritis, muscle and bone pain, tendonitis, osteoporosis, and any inflammatory condition. Birch is also a treatment for bladder infections, recurring cystitis, gout, edema, and kidney stones. Birch helps with eczema and other skin disorders. One of its outstanding uses is reducing fevers.

GENERAL INFORMATION: One of the key compounds in birch (and wintergreen) essential oil is methyl salicylate. In birch oil, this compound makes up 85-90% of the oil. Methyl salicylate is an aspirin-like compound which has much the same effect on muscles and nerves as cortisone, but as a constituent of an essential oil it does not have the side-effects of cortisone.

Methyl salicylate is easily and cheaply produced in laboratories, but the man-made substitute has very toxic side effects. This is not true of birch essential oilâ??in spite of what you may have heard or read. There are two basic reasons for the natural one being harmless and the chemical version being deadly.

The first has to do with molecular structure. Methyl salicylate is comprised of 19 atoms - of carbon, 8 of hydrogen, and 3 of oxygen. Imagine how many different combinations could be made using these "building blocks." Nature makes only one methyl salicylate. Forced together in a laboratory, this set of atoms combine into 25 known structures. These various structures are called isomers. The components of each isomer are the same but the structure is different. Two of these isomers are quite similar to natural methyl salicylate but are not quite right! Different isomers of the same compound can have entirely different, often opposite, properties - some helpful, most harmful. This is the case with man-made methyl salicylate. It has nasty side effects.

Secondly, the 10-15% of other compounds that occur naturally in birch oil balances the methyl salicylate and keep it from being toxic. This "balancing act" of naturally occurring compounds is common in the natural world. (The lack of balancing components is why drugs have side effects and herbs do not!!) Research done by aromatherapists of the British school of thought was conducted using perfume grade essential oils (in other words, synthetic laboratory produced oils diluted in carrier oil). This research has been given extensive coverage in print. These synthetic oils proved toxic - even when diluted. The research has no relevance to the safety or efficacy of pure therapeutic grade essential oils.

Therapeutic grade birch essential oil is safe to use; synthetic reproductions are not!

I visited a web site where it was explained that birch oil had aggravated a toxic condition established by medications which contained large amounts of "fake" methyl salicylate. This was sited as a reason to not use birch essential oil at all. The fact that the reaction was set up by the synthetic compound was brushed aside as irrelevant. It was assumed that the reaction would have been the same with pure birch oil. Although the natural and the man-made compounds have the same name, they are not the same! A study of simple chemistry shows this clearly. (See Dr. David Stewart' book The Chemistry of Essential Oils Made Simple, page 221). The methyl salicylate in the birch oil continued to aggravate the condition because the natural compounds meant to balance it were insufficient for a battle against the synthetic compound in the medications and the natural compound in the birch oil at the same time. More simply put, the "balancing" substances in the birch were sufficient for the birch; they were wholly inadequate to deal with a deliberate drug over-dose.

Essential oils heal because they are naturally occurring substances, balanced by nature and nature's Creator. They heal quickly, without the side effects of drugs. Never forget, drugs have side effects!!

(Cinnamomum camphora)

INGREDIENT IN: LeGrateful Heart, LeMeditation, LeVision

THERAPEUTIC PROPERTIES: antibacterial, antifungal, anti-infective, emollient, analgesic, antispasmodic, immune tonic, sedative, tonic, antidepressant, aphrodisiac

AFFINITY FOR: immune system, bones, skin, muscles, joints

RESONANCE: physical, emotional, spiritual

PART UTILIZED: twigs, bark

EXTRACTION METHOD: steam distilled

AROMATIC CONSIDERATIONS: Howood is similar in composition and nature to rosewood. It can be used for most applications in which you would use rosewood, yet howood is a beautiful oil in its own right. Howood is emotionally uplifting to the mind. It promotes alertness and clarity, but is relaxing and refreshing at the same time.

APPLICATION: Howood is especially nice when added to a bath. It can be diluted and applied to the appropriate areas of the feet and body. It makes an excellent addition to massage oil. Some people like to add a few drops to their shampoo.

EMOTIONAL / SPIRITUAL / MENTAL ASPECTS: Howood can prepare our minds and spirits for emotional, spiritual, and energy healing work. Howood calms the nerves and is an antidepressant.

PHYSICAL ASPECTS: Howood is a cellular stimulant and regenerator (cytophylactic), much like helichrysum. This makes it a very valuable oil, especially for the price. Because howood has an exceptionally high linalol content, it is thought to be very nourishing and supportive to the immune system. It should be used routinely as part of a preventative health care regimen.

Howood is an excellent oil for reducing inflammation, spasms, and pain in muscles and joints. It can be used effectively for injuries or arthritis.

GENERAL INFORMATION: The aroma of howood contains NO camphor-like notes, in spite of its latin name. This is a very mild and pleasant essential oil.

Howood is being promoted around the world as a viable substitute for rosewood, which is becoming an endangered species. It seems to be quite a good substitute, actually, but I hope we can always purchase and use both.

(Agathophyllum aromatica)

INGREDIENT IN: LeBreezey, LeLifeForce, LeMariah, LeVallee

THERAPEUTIC PROPERTIES: antiseptic, antiviral, antibiotic, antifungal, expectorant, febrifuge

AFFINITY FOR: immune system, respiratory system, endocrine system - particularly adrenal glands, muscles, brow chakra

RESONANCE: physical, emotional

PART UTILIZED: twigs & leaves, organic

EXTRACTION METHOD: steam distilled

AROMATIC CONSIDERATIONS: The aroma of ravensara can help us unlock and unblock negative emotions, and then banish their effects from our lives. It is similar to eucalyptus, but milder and more pleasant.

APPLICATION: Ravensara can be diffused as a single oil, but it is most therapeutic and delightful as part of a blend. Ravensara can be diluted and applied to the feet or the body.

EMOTIONAL / SPIRITUAL / MENTAL ASPECTS: Emotionally, ravensara is like a spiritual disinfectant. It goes through our minds and memories and blasts away negative emotions and responses. Ravensara does this gently, letting us know every step of the way that we are doing all right and will soon be doing even better.

PHYSICAL ASPECTS: Ravensara is strongly antiviral. It really gets in and kills critters. It then supports the kidneys and lymphatic system in getting rid of the "dead bodies" of the invaders. Ravensara has an affinity for the lungs and is useful in chronic respiratory conditions.

Ravensara is often used to bring relief from shingles. Ravensara kills the attacking viruses and brings relief from the pain.

Ravensara is listed throughout the literature for use with chicken pox, measles, and all viral infections. Ravensara has brought relief from mononucleosis and chronic fatigue syndrome. Ravensara acts as an expectorant and helps to promote a healthy fever. A blend containing ravensara would be a good thing to dilute and rub on yourself if you are showing any signs of coming down with the flu.

CAUTIONS: This oil is considered completely safe and non-toxic, but care should always be taken during pregnancy.
