The number one thing that you need to remember when dealing with the flu, or any other illness, is to TREAT FOR THE SYMPTOMS that you are experiencing at the present time. The name of the illness or the strain of the bacteria/virus is less important to herbal and homeopathic remedies than you might think.

Keep in mind that you are probably looking at both a viral AND a bacterial infection occurring at the same time. Viral infections almost always open the body up for overgrowth or infestation of one unfriendly bacteria or another.

Recommended Essential Oils

LeDeliverance is considered to be anti-viral as well as anti-bacterial. Daily use of this oil can boost the immune system and keep it functioning at optimum levels. An inhaler with LeDeliverance should be used frequently throughout the day to “refresh” the body’s defenses.

LeEndo Relief helps the lymphatic system continue to drain and to keep toxins and dying bacteria from over-whelming tissues and cells. This oil is also very helpful during the recovery stages of serious illness because it is designed to strengthen and re-balance the endocrine system as a whole.

LeMariah is a wonderful support for the entire respiratory system. It promotes the rebuilding of the lungs while helping to eliminate the virus and bacteria from the respiratory system.

LeStefanie is another respiratory blend that may be helpful in ridding the body of any anti-biotic resistant bacteria strains.

LeBreezey and / or LeAspire and always good to support and open the respiratory system.

LeRevitalize and / or LeLife Force are both good oils for improving energy levels during the illness and for helping the body re-gain strength and remove residual bacteria and toxins.

LeInside Out would be a must if there is any intestinal discomfort or diarrhea.

Suggested Blessed Water

(Use only when symptoms are present)

Gelsemium sempervirens 200C - In 1918 a flu outbreak took more lives than was lost in the entirety of Word War I. There were some homeopathic hospitals that had a phenomenal rate of survival and recovery. Gelsemium was the main remedy used. Here are some of the key-note symptoms of Gelsemium

Influenza with muscular soreness, great fatigue and headache. Usually great shaking and trembling.

Drowsiness with any type of influenza - almost a stupor, sometimes with delirium

Feeling of emptiness in stomach or bowels; cramping with diarrhea and yellow discharges; gnawing and/or spasmodic pain in the transverse colon; painful contractions; tenderness in right iliac region

Chilliness up and down the spine

The face would have a hot, flushed appearance - unlike Arsenicum, below, which has blueness and cold

Thirstless, little appetite for food

Weak slow pulse with pain in the heart region with movement (Good time to use LeVitality or LeRevitalize oil)

Partial paralysis of the bladder. (Use LeRevitalize oil)

Feeling of oppression in the chest; slow breathing alternating with spasms and quick, short breaths.

Excessive trembling and weakness of the limbs.

Pain from throat to ear with the feeling of a large lump in the throat that cannot be swallowed.

Dizziness and blurred vision.

Arsenicum album 200C - A must when dealing with any intestinal, bacterial flu.

Arsenicum would be especially useful if, once recovered, a relapse occurred.

Exhaustion, but with anxiety and restlessness

Low vitality and eventual emaciation and weight loss.

Shortness of breath with suffocative catarrh<

Abdomen swollen and painful with an enlarged spleen.

Darting pain through upper right lung; shortness of breath when not sitting up

Headache relieved by cold; itchy scalp

Liver and spleen enlarged and painful (use LeRevitalize here)

Nausea, retching and vomiting. Craves cold water but vomits it immediately

High fever

Throat would be swollen making swallowing difficult to impossible.

Vertigo - almost loss of consciousness - during coughing or retching spells.

Veratrum Album
A picture of collapse with extreme coldness, blueness and weakness

Vomiting that is violent and profuse. Diarrhea also violent and purging

Cramping in the legs and feet

All symptoms are violent and sudden and often accompanied by fainting

Face would be very pale, blue, collapsed looking and cold; tip of nose very cold

Voracious appetite and thirst but eating and drinking, particularly cold things, is immediately vomited

Vomiting worse with any motion

Cold sweat on forehead

Heart palpitations with rapid audible respiration (consider Vitality oil here)

Mucous in bronchials and throat

Large hard stools followed by watery diarrhea then more hard masses

Diarrhea #1 - diarrhea and accompanying weakness and/or coldness

Eupatorium perfoliatum 200C - for use with the flu with body aches and pains.

Severe and violent aching in the bones including back, limbs and head.

Soreness and painful aching; bruised feeling in bones, especially in old injuries.

Hoarseness and dry cough with soreness in chest.

Cough with influenza; cough better from getting on hands and knees.

Headache with soreness of eyeballs.

Herbal Tinctures

BBL is a fantastic herbal tincture for pain, as well as coughs, bronchitis, asthma, insomnia and headaches. A few drops at bedtime can help you relax into sleep. Use 20-40 in the tub can be useful for relaxation and pain relief.

Cayenne/Hawthorne Cayenne sustains and protects the heart during times of stress and during infectious diseases. Hawthorne improves the integrity of the cell membrane and prevents damage to individual cells throughout the body.

MIN This mineral supplement tincture supplies essential B vitamins needed when the body is under stress, as well as other necessary vitamins for the proper function of the body’s immune defenses.

Olive leaf is a very potent anti-bacterial as well as anti-viral herb. Particularly helpful in reducing the high fevers associated with viral/bacterial attacks. Studies have also shown that it relaxes arterial walls and reduces the hyper-tension that is created by fever and/or dehydration.

Rosehips supply a very potent, very absorbable form of vitamin C in a concentrated form. Vitamin C is necessary for proper cell function and regeneration and for a strong immune system. Vitamin C is required for the uptake of many other nutrients by the body.

RC-L is our Red Clover Combination, an amazing blood purifying remedy, to which lomatium root has been added. Lomatium was used in northern Nevada during the 1918 influenza epidemic by the Washoe Indians with amazing recovery results. It is utilized today by naturopathic physicians in the treatment of influenza, pneumonia, bronchitis, etc.

WC is a wonderful glycerin tincture for coughs. It is also a great expectorant. Frequent, small doses are better than one big dose. WC will liquefy mucous in the throat, lungs and sinuses.

Some other things to remember

Get plenty of rest
Drink plenty of water
The best plan is prevention: avoid exposure
Wash hands with soap and water frequently
Avoid hand contact with your face and mouth
Treat your symptoms as soon as they appear; change protocols as the symptoms change

The role of monoterpenes in the healing process is to reprogram miswritten information in the cellular memory. This effects the DNA of the cell, restoring it to its original blueprint as God designed it to be. Improper coding in the cellular memory can (and usually does) result in the malfunction of the cells, which can lead to any type of disease at all—including cancer. Improper coding can also lead to false memories that keep us from the healing balm of gratitude and forgiveness. An oil blend that has oils high in sesquiterpenes, phenols and monoterpenes can clean and scrub the cells, remove the "old misinformation" and reprogram in the new, good information. This is true healing as the body builds itself stronger, from the cells up

Essential oils high in monoterpenes include:
grapefruit 93%
bitter orange 90%
mandarin 90%
orange, sweet 90%
tangerine 90%
fir, balsam 83%
angelica 90%
lemon 80%
frankincense 78%
celery seed 77%

INGREDIENTS: basil, birch, eucalyptus, lemon, peppermint, ravensara

AFFINITY FOR: respiratory system, immune system, skin, muscles

RESONANCE: physical

APPLICATION: LeBreezey should be diluted and rubbed on the chest or back. It can also be diffused or placed on your pillow at night.

AROMATIC CONSIDERATIONS: LeBreezey opens bronchial and sinus passages very effectively and has been successful in alleviating snoring.

EMOTIONAL / SPIRITUAL / MENTAL ASPECTS: While generally thought of as an oil for physical illness, the aroma of LeBreezey lifts the spirits and brings a sense of confidence and self-worth.

PHYSICAL ASPECTS: LeBreezey, besides being very effective in times of illness, is an excellent respiratory tonic and immune stimulant. The inclusion of ravensara oil creates viral fighting and tissue rebuilding properties, especially for the lung and bronchial tissues. This blend should also be tried for colds, asthma, allergies, sinus congestion, and flu. LeBreezey makes an excellent muscle relaxant and pain reliever when you do not have LeWarmDown or LeDeeper handy and you have strained a muscle.

GENERAL INFORMATION: LeBreezey is often used alternately with LeAspire.

INGREDIENTS: angelica, cedarwood, cinnamon bark, clary sage, geranium, jasmine, mandarin, neroli, orange sweet, orange sweet dark, patchouli, sandalwood, spikenard, ylang ylang

AFFINITY FOR: emotions, base chakra, sacral chakra, heart chakra

RESONANCE: physical with deep emotional impact

APPLICATION: LeMoonlight can be diffused any time you like or worn as a perfume.

AROMATIC CONSIDERATIONS: The aroma of this blend is earthy with a strong sensuous floral tone.

Emotional/PHYSICAL ASPECTS: LeMoonlight is a potent aphrodisiac. It sets a mood of connection to and appreciation for your romantic partner. LeMoonlight adds to the delight you feel in the sensual and passionate side of your lives together and creates emotional depth and bonding.

LeSego Lily

INGREDIENTS: copaiba balsam, grapefruit, rosewood, vanilla

AFFINITY FOR: skin, heart chakra, emotional health

RESONANCE: physical, emotional

APPLICATION: Diffuse or wear as a perfume. Diluted, LeSego Lily makes an excellent massage oil and is excellent in the bath.

AROMATIC CONSIDERATIONS: LeSego Lily is light and airy with a beautiful, uplifting, and calming aroma.

EMOTIONAL / SPIRITUAL / MENTAL ASPECTS: The aromatic influence of LeSego Lily is, in part, to bring a feeling of calmness during a crisis or when feeling anxious and out of sorts. LeSego Lily also promotes a feeling of being loved and appreciated. Its aroma often inspires us to show love and appreciation to others.

PHYSICAL ASPECTS: Physically, LeSego Lily is a blend for skin care and health. It promotes skin elasticity and may seem to slow the process of aging as it nourishes the skin and smooths out wrinkles. LeSego Lily is used to bring relief from the itching of hives and allergic rashes. When used for this purpose, a more emollient carrier oil containing jojoba, apricot, or rosehip oil would be beneficial.

(Cupressus torulosa)

INGREDIENT IN: LeAspire, LeBalance, LeCandila, LeCypernium, LeDelicate, LeEndoRelief, LeIQ, LeKey to My Heart, LeReflections, LeRefreshMint, LeTomorrow, LeVisibility, LeVitality, LeWarmDown

THERAPEUTIC PROPERTIES: mucolytic, hepatic, astringent, antispasmodic, antisudorific, diuretic, restorative, vasoconstrictor, respiratory tonic, calmative, astringent

AFFINITY FOR: circulation, muscles, pancreas, joints, liver, lymphatic drainage, respiratory system, reproductive system, solar plexus chakra, throat chakra, large intestine meridian, central vessel meridian, spleen meridian, yin energy.

RESONANCE: physical, emotional, spiritual

PLANT FAMILY: Coniferae/Cupressacea (sub)

PART UTILIZED: twigs, leaves

EXTRACTION METHOD: steam distilled

APPLICATION: Diluted and applied anywhere. Excellent applied to the bottoms of the feet.

AROMATIC CONSIDERATIONS: Cypress is a wonderful healer for the spirit. It brings the feeling that each new day is a fresh start on our road to glowing life and health. Change is a part of life. Times of transition can be positive if we allow them to be. If we struggle against the changes, trying to hang on to what was, our life can feel like an unending struggle. Interestingly, cypress - while not a sedative - is useful for insomnia. Perhaps the optimism it brings quiets the usual worry that is keeping one awake.

EMOTIONAL / SPIRITUAL / MENTAL ASPECTS: Cypress is considered in many cultures to be symbolic of life after death. It may be useful when facing death or other separations. The aroma of cypress opens us to direction from heaven. Cypress can help soften unbending and inflexible attitudes. Cypress seems to bring balance to our attitudes about money. It has the effect of loosening purse strings that are being held too tightly. Cypress can help us learn to enjoy the bounty that we have. Perhaps those who need to can even learn to spend a little on something that is not an absolute necessity.

PHYSICAL ASPECTS: Cypress strengthens capillary walls, reducing varicose veins and hemorrhoids. Cypress is a respiratory, lymphatic, liver, pancreas, and prostate decongestant, making cypress useful for a wide variety of ailments. Cypress is a mild, but effective, diuretic. It should be tried for water retention, cellulite, menstrual bloating, and menopausal problems. Cypress is one of the best oils for muscle cramps and healing wounds. In fact, cypress is one of the best single oils to reach for in many circumstances. I love and use mostly blends, but cypress is so complex and far reaching that it is almost like a blend itself.

CAUTIONS: Cypress is mildly estrogenic and should be avoided by most pregnant women. It is, however, used for toxemia when at least part of the cause is an estrogen imbalance.

(Anethum graveolens)

INGREDIENT IN: LeEndoRelief, LeLifeForce

THERAPEUTIC PROPERTIES: antispasmodic, antibacterial, antiseptic, expectorant, stimulant, digestive, sedative, stomachic, sudorific, galactogogue

AFFINITY FOR: digestive system, autonomic nervous system, respiratory system, endocrine system (particularly the pancreas), bloodstream, stomach meridian

RESONANCE: physical, emotional

PLANT FAMILY: Umbelliferae

EXTRACTION METHOD: steam distilled

APPLICATION: Dill can be applied anywhere on the body - if you don't mind smelling like a dill pickle!

AROMATIC CONSIDERATIONS: The autonomic nervous system controls such things as heartbeat, the function of our kidneys, the flow of hormones, and blood pressure. We have been taught that we have no conscious control of these functions. Studies and common sense both indicate that this is not entirely true. For example, army snipers are taught to mentally slow their pulse and heartbeat and sharpen the acuity of their vision as they prepare to make their shots. In the nerves and impulses of this area of the nervous system, dill brings sustenance, strength, and calmness.

EMOTIONAL / SPIRITUAL / MENTAL ASPECTS: A sluggish colon often manifests itself in the emotions as depression or repression of emotions. Dill's action on the digestive system can help lift depression and bring buried emotions to the surface where they can be processed.

PHYSICAL ASPECTS: Dill supports pancreatic functions, helping to normalize glucose and insulin levels. As glucose and insulin stabilize, energy levels remain steady - there are no glucose spikes followed by periods of abnormally low glucose levels. This effect of the aroma of dill is almost instantaneous. A more complex blend containing dill, such as LeEndoRelief, should be used for long-term treatment. Dill is used to stimulate digestion. In pioneer times and in much of Europe even today, meals began with something sour such as dill pickles. It might be a good thing to emulate this practice in our own eating habits.

Dill is also a mild way to cleanse the liver and blood. It promotes milk flow in nursing mothers. Perhaps there is a connection to the cravings for pickles that are associated with pregnancy, and either the mild cleansing or milk producing properties of dill.

CAUTIONS: Occasionally safety literature will mention that dill should be used cautiously by people with seizure disorders.

(Marjorana hortensis)

INGREDIENT IN: LeAspire, LeBalance, LeMyGraine, LeSolitude, LeTendaCare, LeVitality, LeWarmDown, LeWoman Wise

THERAPEUTIC PROPERTIES: antispasmodic, arterial vasodilator, expectorant, digestive, analgesic, calming, sedative, antitussive, antiseptic, antibiotic, anti-infective, diuretic, emmenagogue

AFFINITY FOR: respiratory system, digestive system, cardiovascular system, reproductive areas, solar plexus chakra, governing vessel meridian, stomach & spleen meridians, yang energy

RESONANCE: physical, emotional

EXTRACTION METHOD: steam distilled

AROMATIC CONSIDERATIONS: The aroma of marjoram oil can warm the soul in times of grief, sorrow, or loneliness.

APPLICATION: Dilute and apply to the feet or any area of the body.

EMOTIONAL / SPIRITUAL / MENTAL ASPECTS: Marjoram is quieting to obsessive worry where negative thoughts circle repetitively in the brain hour after hour. This type of obsessive worry is an indication of depleted or stressed earth energy. Marjoram essential oil is also helpful for those who seem to love being in the center of some sort of drama all the time. This need for attention is a manifestation of an energetically depleted earth meridian with its "lack of something" perception. In this instance, the feeling of deprivation focuses on family or friends. We are sure that "no one cares" about us as they should. The aroma of marjoram oil can eliminate feelings of loneliness or persecution, replacing them with feelings of security and even some compassion for others.

PHYSICAL ASPECTS: Marjoram eases respiratory distress and infections such as bronchitis. It is often beneficial for spasmodic dry coughs. The analgesic properties of marjoram make it an appropriate choice for muscle aches, sprains, strains, and arthritis. Marjoram essential oil helps bruising to clear and fade more quickly. Marjoram increases the dilation of blood vessels, lowers blood pressure, and eases heart palpitations. It can ease headaches that are caused by muscle tension or lack of circulation.

Marjoram oil increases the tone and effectiveness of parasympathetic nerves. One benefit of healthy parasympathetic nerves is an increase in the peristalsis in the colon. Marjoram regulates the menstrual cycle, relieves pain and cramping.

GENERAL INFORMATION: Marjoram was known as the "herb of happiness" to the early Romans and "joy of the mountain" to the Greeks.

CAUTIONS: Marjoram should be used sparingly during pregnancy.
